Importing Records
Home > Tutorials > Import Records

Step 1:
• Open the database you want to import records from, and perform a Find All (Press <Command J>) to display every record. (Only records that are showing in your old database, will be imported into the new one.)

CLOSE that database. (The database you intend to import records FROM, MUST be closed!!!)

Step 2:
• Open the document to import records INTO.
• Locate the Import Records menu item, from the Scripts menu, or if using SoundLog Pro, select Import Records from the File menu.

Step 3:
Navigate to, and select the database that you want to import the records FROM (the database you used in Step 1 - REMEMBER, the database you're importing FROM MUST BE CLOSED!!!, otherwise, you'll get an error saying your password doesn't allow you to do this....)

Step 4:
• Make sure the field names all line up. This is easily done by selecting Matching Names in the pull down menu you see in this picture (See upper right hand corner.).
• Make sure Add new records is selected (lower left corner).
• Click the Import button.

Step 5:
• If prompted, check the box to Perform auto-enter options...., as seen here.
• Select to keep values in repeating fields by Keeping them in the original record.
• Click the OK button, to import.

Step 6 For SoundLog Pro Users only - IMPORTANT!!:

Failure to do this will result in a database that does not perform properly!!!

1) Repeat steps 1 through 5, importing a record (it can be more than one, but at least one) from the latest copy of the updated SLP2 layout.

** Simply unstuff another (latest copy) SLP2 document, and import a record from that.

2) Please check all your SoundLog Pro preferences, as this process will set them to the defaults.

Why do this? Because when you imported your old records, some important information got overwritten in some fields I use as a developer (fields you never need to see or edit). By importing a record from the latest version, you'll restore that important data.

That's it! Your records should import, and be ready for instant use!
