Quick Start
- Get up and running in 5 minutes
Quickly Catalog a folder to add files into your database, then import
a file into Pro Tools.
Follow these steps to get started:
Open the file "SLP - DEMO", then, using the page tabs, go to the "Catalog" page. |
Set up your Catalog preferences to match those at right. (Most important - "Create New Records" in section 1, and "Online" in section 3) |
In the lower part of box 4, click the box to select a folder ON A PRO TOOLS® READY DRIVE (since in the previous step we chose "Online" as the Catalog type), and contains SD2 or AIFF audio files to Catalog (preferably a library type folder for purposes of this demonstration). After your folder is chosen, click the down arrow to the right of the box (circled in blue at right).
The white box (The Master Catalog Box) should now contain the folder you want to Catalog. Press the Catalog button to perform the Catalog.
Open a Pro Tools® session, then... You need to check your Pro Tools preference settings, each time you open a new session. Using the page tabs, go to the preferences page. |
Under the "Pro Tools®" tab, make your preference settings look like the example at right.
Next, set up your session settings to match the sample rate & bit-depth of your current session. Click the "Audio Files folder" box, and at the prompt, select your "Audio Files" folder for your current session.
(Don't worry about the "ROM folder", since we didn't select to use it in the step above.)
Using the page tabs, go to the "Browser" page. |
Audition a sound by clicking where you see the red circle at right.
Note: At this point, the "File name" & "Description" will be the same, since you didn't have any records in your database to start with. Whenever SoundLog Pro creates new records while cataloging, it adds the Sound File Name to the description field, rather than leave the description blank.(THIS FEATURE HAS CHANGED, AND THE DESCRIPTION FIELD IS NOW LEFT BLANK.) Also: My example shows a record with Sound File info (sample rate, etc.). Your records will not show this since we turned that function off in the catalog. This info can be added at any time.
When you find a sound file you want to import, click the import button (circled in red at right).
Note: When the button is yellow, SoundLog Pro opens the file as if you had "dragged & dropped" it onto the Pro Tools® icon. This is also the same as if you used the "Import window" in Pro Tools®. You can have SoundLog Pro copy, rather than just import, by deselecting the "Import into Pro Tools®, instead of forcing a copy" preference.
